The Georgia Gaming Industry
The Georgia gaming industry is a $3.4 billion dollar industry that includes such activities as thebetting South and Las Vegas5-the number gamejackpots. They have quite a bit on their plate as far as contributing to the state budget, user fees, charitable gaming funds, mobile gaming, casino promotions, slot machines, video poker, craps, roulette wheels, Keno and bingo. According to the latest data, Georgia casinos generated 27.3 million dollars in revenue in 2009.
The Georgia government arms Georgia casinos with about $1.6 billion in tax revenue annually. This situation has prompted several attempts at reviving the land-based casino industry in Georgia. Several casinos are planned but none have opened yet. One would imagine that with such a staggering quantity of poorly run casinos in the state, it would be a lot easier to make money off them. Don’t think so.
According to the AJC, of the approximately 4,000 unlicensed casinos in Georgia, about 500 are categorized as “ilated”. According to this definition, an Indianapolis Colts event was held in Atlanta in violation of the HAVA (Help America Help victims of crime) act, which requires the separation of gambling facilities that include any gaming facility that offers slight chance of winning money.
